Hospital extends car park

A new one-way system and larger car park at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University have helped traffic flow in the area, but further improvements could be made, it said yesterday.

An official said the parking capacity has been increased to 400 spaces, from 230, though it still meets only 80 percent of the daily demand.

The hospital is visited by 2,000 to 2,500 patients a day, many of whom arrive between 7:30am and 9:30am, said Jiang Hua, its vice director.

When the car park is full, a member of staff tells visitors to park somewhere else, “like at the Yangpu Chinese Medicine Hospital next door,” he said.

Since the start of a citywide crackdown on traffic violations, about 1,400 tickets have been issued to people caught parking illegally near the hospital, police said.
