Icy forecast for Lunar New Year
ANOTHER frigid blast of winter is on its way.
Temperatures will plunge an average of 12 degrees Celsius in the next 48 hours as a strong cold front arrives, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Tomorrow it would be cloudy and temperatures will range between 5 and 12 degrees. Friday's forecast calls for temperatures between minus 3 and 1 degree while the mercury will fluctuate from minus 4 to 3 degrees on Saturday.
The temperature is expected to drop to a low of minus 4 on Sunday, which is also Lunar New Year's Eve. The weather bureau cautioned that it could be even colder this weekend with a low of minus 9 in the city's suburbs.
The cold front will also bring strong winds of up to 61 kilometers per hour in most areas of the city although gusts could reach 102 kilometers per hour on Friday.
The long-range forecast calls for clear and cold weather from Monday to Wednesday.
Fu Yi, an official from the bureau said, Shanghai will not receive any snowstorms like last year.
The national forecast calls for snow in the provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning. Snowstorms are possible in some areas of these provinces.
