Intercity trains begin service
SHANGHAI'S new Hongqiao Railway Station was busy today with the launch of Shanghai-Nanjing intercity high-speed trains.
The first bullet train G5000, riding on a direct trip to Nanjing without stops, left from Hongqiao at 8am. The journey last 73 minutes and the train's speed reaches 345 kilometers per hour.
However some passengers complained about the poor service along the route. Some were even stranded for more than an hour as rail staff, who are still unfamiliar with the operation procedures, gave a wrong signal, officials said.
The new station is like an airport terminal with a large sign informing passengers about trains. Rail authorities plan to add English-language information later.
Metro Line 2 also stops at the station.
