Island roads closed for bike race

SOME roads on Chongming Island will be closed from tomorrow until Sunday due to an international women’s cycling race.

Tomorrow, racing takes place on a circular course in the area near the Chongming District government. No traffic will be allowed on the following roads, where racing takes place, from 10:30am to 3pm: Chongming Avenue, Baodao Raod, Qiaosong Road, Gulangyu Road, Yulinqiao Road, Limin Road, Ximen Road, Beimen Road and Yijiangshan Road.

Part of Chongming Avenue between Gulangyu Road and Jiangfan Road near Xincheng Park — the start and finishing point of the race — has been closed to traffic since Tuesday and it will be reopened at midnight on Sunday.

On Saturday, the race will be held in the afternoon in the eastern part of Chongming Island and also on neighboring Changxing Island, affecting major highways. Saturday’s race runs from 12pm to 5pm.

On Changxing Island, all vehicles will be banned on Jiangnan Avenue between Fenghuang Highway and Fengrong Road from 12pm on Friday to 2pm on Saturday.

On Sunday, the race will be held in the western part of the island with major highways and roads around Mingzhu Lake closed from 11am to 3pm.

The race, entitled the “Tour of Chongming Island (China),” is an event on this year’s calendar of the UCI Women’s WorldTour. About 110 cyclists from all over the world are expected.
