Line 11 cuts wait for trains during F1 race
SHANGHAI’S metro operator will cut the wait between trains on certain parts of Line 11 this weekend in order to accommodate passengers heading to and from the Formula One race at the Shanghai International Circuit.
The main race starts at 2pm on April 12. From 3pm to 7pm that day, trains will arrive every two-and-a-half minutes between the Jiadingxincheng and Sanlin stations.
Meanwhile, between the Jiadingxincheng and Huaqiao stations, the interval will be cut to 5 minutes and 10 seconds, down from the usual 11 minutes. At the line’s remaining sections, the wait will be 15.5 minutes.
Since shuttle bus services between downtown Shanghai and Jiading District were cancelled several years ago, Metro Line 11 has become the main public transport option for racing fans to reach the circuit.
Shanghai Circuit Station, the closest station to the main entrance of the track, will open all entrances and exits over the weekend. Extra staff and volunteers will also be dispatched in and around the station.
The operator will begin one-way traffic control if serious congestion is detected. Passenger flows will also be monitored at main transfer stations along the line to ensure safety.
The race starts on Friday with practice sessions for F1 teams. The qualifying race will be held on Saturday.
