Line 2 extends service
METRO Line 2 will extend its service time on its eastern extension toward Pudong airport beginning tomorrow.
The new daily hours will be from 6:30am to 9pm between Guanglan Road Station and Pudong airport station. Currently it runs from 9am to 4pm.
Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, the city's subway operator, said the line is expected to be "the busiest among the city's 11 lines" after the schedule change.
Line 2, the only subway linking the city's two international airports, transports about 1.2 million passengers a day.
The number is expected to surpass 1.3 million with the extended hours, the operator said.
At the moment, Line 1 is the busiest. About 6 million people use the city's Metro network every day.
A surge in passengers is more likely along Line 2's eastern extension at Pudong's Chuansha area as a lot of construction is ongoing there as it will be the future home of Disney Land Park.
Metro officials said they would extend the line's hours again in future. Most lines run until after 10pm every day.
The interval time between trains along the eastern extension will be cut to about 8.5 minutes from more than 10 minutes as more trains will be added.
