Line 20 to serve Qingpu
QINGPU District will be connected in future to downtown Shanghai with Metro Line 20, a local urban planner said.
The planned route of Line 20, which is expected to connect the Hongqiao Transport Hub to suburban Qingpu, has been put online for public opinion.
The new line is expected to be about 35 kilometers with 10 stations planned in Qingpu.
The line will likely include stations at Qingpu New Town and Zhujiajiao area, one of the city's key tourist attractions. Line 20 is expected to end near Dianshan Lake.
Meanwhile urban planners said they were very careful when drafting subway routes near historical buildings.
Planners said they usually avoid building subways near the foundations of protected buildings to avoid possible damage.
The city has about 4 million square meters of historical buildings, mainly in downtown areas where the busiest subway lines operate.
