Line 6 to add two new trains
SHANGHAI'S Metro operator will add two trains to Metro Line 6 starting tomorrow to boost capacity during rush hours and ease overcrowding that has led to complaints.
However, the extra trains will not completely resolve overcrowding on the line, Metro officials said yesterday.
The extra trains will help cut the interval between subways down to 2 minutes and 30 seconds during morning rush between Gaoqing Road Station and Jufeng Road Station, the line's most crowded section. The current interval time is about 2 minutes and 50 seconds, said the operator, Shanghai Shentong Metro Group.
The evening rush hour interval will drop to 3 minutes and 20 seconds, an improvement from the present 3 minutes and 40 seconds.
