Long distance buses tracked
A ROUND-THE-CLOCK supervision platform has been set up to keep track of the city’s 11,000 long distance buses which have been fitted with GPS systems.
Shanghai’s traffic management authority will run the platform which has been financially supported by insurance companies. It will collect data and monitor the GPS systems installed in the inter-province buses. Both the operative company and traffic management authorities will be sounded out for traffic violations like speed limit or driving long hours or driving during forbidden hours.
The platform has been running on a trial basis before this year’s Spring Festival. One bus company was ordered to suspend operations after its vehicles were caught during forbidden hours (2am and 5am), said Lu Gaosheng, spokesman for the traffic management division of Shanghai Transport and Port Administration.
