Longer platforms for longer Metro trains

PLATFORMS will be extended on two stations on Metro Line 5 so that longer trains can be used, following passenger complaints that they are too crowded, the city government announced on its official microblog account yesterday.

Yindu Road and Jianchuan Road stations will have their platforms extended to 120 meters from the current 80 meters. This will allow six-carriage trains to operate the route, instead of the four-carriage trains currently used on the service linking Minhang Development Zone to Xinzhuang Road station. The government also has plans to extend platforms at the other four stations along the line. A four-carriage train can carry at most 1,170 passengers.
