Lots of rain in weekend forecast
FREQUENT showers are forecast for the rest of this week, cooling down the city somewhat, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said yesterday.
Rain is expected today through Monday and temperatures are expected to remain between 29 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees, the bureau said.
Although torrential rain and floods are causing havoc in southern China, Shanghai and nearby cities in the Yangtze River Delta have not been affected, said Man Liping, one of the bureau's chief service officers.
"The cold fronts in the north were still active recently and the subtropical high remained weak, which caused the rain belt to stay in the south," Man said.
"Shanghai is still under the northern edge of the rain belt, which leads to less rainfall despite it being the plum rain season," he added.
