Lujiazui overpass gets set for extension
A DOUBLE-LEVEL overpass as an extension to the current walkway system to cater to pedestrians in Lujiazui financial area in Pudong will be put into service in months, according to the project developer.
Shanghai Urban Construction (Group) Corp told Shanghai Daily yesterday that the construction of the main structure of the overpass was completed on Sunday. Decoration is planned to be completed by early August to prepare for its opening to the public.
The new overpass, spanning across Century Avenue, will be connected to the current circular walkway system that facilitates pedestrians to travel across the district with more convenience.
Another elevated walkway project is also in the works which will extend the sky pedestrian links around Lujiazui.
The construction is part of the planned government efforts to upgrade support facilities in the area.
The Pudong New Area government has announced it would invest 80 million yuan (US$12.25 million) to make the Lujiazui area more pedestrian and tourist-friendly.
The investment also includes supporting the opening of more canteens inside office buildings, and setting up more convenience stores, bank machines, cafes and tea shops to make it more relaxing and friendly for people to visit and work in the area.
