Malfunction causes delays, congestion on Metro Line 8
A malfunction on Shanghai's Metro Line 8 slowed down trains during rush hour this morning, causing severe passenger congestion.
The trains ran at restricted speeds between Jiangpu Road Station and Zhongxing Road Station from 7:30am, while vastly extending train intervals.
The metro operator estimated that the malfunction lasted only 10 minutes, Xinmin.cn reported today. It had to restrict passengers who wanted to interchange to Line 8 from other lines.
One microblogger complained that it took 35 minutes for the train to pass three stations and passengers waiting for the train lined up all the way to stairs.
The metro operator said operations returned to normal by 7:44am.
