Man hit by train in Metro station
A man was seriously injured this afternoon after he fell off the platform of a Metro Line 3 station on Chifeng Road and was hit by a coming train.
The man in his 50s had his left leg crushed by wheels and was hit in the head. He needed an immediate surgery of amputation, doctors at the Changhai Hospital said.
Metro police said no one had any body contact with the man before his fall and they are investigating the cause.
The accident happened at 12:15pm, said a cleaner on the platform. She said the man, short and slim, jumped off the platform when a train was pulling into the station. Some passengers tried to drag him up but failed.
When he was lifted out of the rail tunnel, he had almost lost one leg, the cleaner said.
The operation of Line 3 returned to normal in 15 minutes, officials said.
