Men arrested after baby resold 3 times

TWO men have been arrested after a baby born in Fengxian District was bought from his drug addict parents and sold on three times.

Local prosecutors said one suspect, surnamed Xie, told the baby’s parents that he knew someone who would adopt their child and bought the baby boy for 8,000 yuan (US$1,304) in June 2010.

Within a month, the child had been resold three times.

Xie told prosecutors he sold the baby to a man, surnamed Chen, for 18,000 yuan.

Chen resold the baby to another man, surnamed Wu, who took the baby to east China’s Shandong Province.

Wu is alleged to have housed the child in a pigpen, claiming that this was because his house was undergoing renovations.

Prosecutors say Wu then resold the baby to a couple among his relatives for 36,000 yuan.

The couple, who didn’t have children, raised the child for three years until police were tipped off.

Police brought Xie, Chen, Wu and the foster parents to Shanghai for questioning.

Prosecutors said Xie and Chen have been charged with abducting the child while Wu has been released on bail.

The foster parents will not be charged as they confessed to their role.

They may still end up as the child’s guardians as his biological parents are receiving drug treatment in a rehab center.
