Mercury set to climb back to 20s
AN expected high pressure is likely to drive away the chill and push the temperature up to the twenties again this week, weather forecasters said.
“The autumn rains always bring coolness” — so goes the Chinese saying. The city saw some rains early in the morning yesterday, bringing down the temperature to as low as 13 degrees Celsius.
“Today I wore more clothes because I heard the temperature would drop,” said an elderly man.
Another pedestrian said she felt the days were getting colder all of a sudden.
After the rainy weekend, the skies are expected to clear up today and bring back the sunshine. But a cold morning is still on the cards with a low of 11 degrees.
Suburban areas are likely to see the temperatures drop below 10 degrees, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
The mercury will climb to 18 degrees later in the day and continue its upward trend in the following few days. The high will return to 20 degrees tomorrow and remain in the twenties at least till Friday. It will reach a high of 24 degrees on Friday.
The cloudy and dry condition will vanish late on Wednesday when a series of brief drizzles hit the city triggered by a low-pressure trough.
The wet weather will come to an end early on Thursday but after escaping from the humid condition for a while, the city will be covered by gray clouds and receive some showers the next day.
The recent cool and wet condition have also seen the chrysanthemums bloom in the city.
