Mercury to remain in the 30s

IT will be another 30-plus degree Celsius today after the mercury soared to 33 degrees yesterday, weather forecasters said.

According to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, the temperature rose to 33.6 degrees in Xujiahui while suburban Jiading District recorded the highest 35.1 degrees. Most districts had ranging between 32 and 34 degrees.

The cloudy skies will remain today and tomorrow with the mercury fluctuating between a low of 23 and a high of 31 degrees. There is a possibility of showers tomorrow and the day after due to low pressure.

It will rain on the weekend with the temperature dropping below 30.

The ongoing hot weather, along with high humidity and weak winds, triggered a smoggy weather in the city yesterday morning. The daytime pollution level was marked as lightly polluted with the air quality index peaking at 130 at noon.
