Mercury to soar under overcast skies
THE mercury once again hit 35 degrees Celsius yesterday after a seven-day break from the heat, increasing this year’s number of high-temperature days to 30, which is double the average. Today’s high is expected to be 34 or 35 degrees Celsius.
The skies will be overcast for the next three days, and there may be showers starting tomorrow, which will see a high of 32 degrees Celsius.
Light pollution is possible over the next few days. The main pollutant will be PM2.5 particles over the weekend, but this will change to ozone on Monday, according to the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.
