Mercury up as typhoon influence weakens

WINDS brought by Typhoon Neoguri will weaken today, and temperatures climb to the mid-30s, forecasters said yesterday.

Neoguri was observed centered about 500 kilometers east of Shanghai at 2pm yesterday, moving at 25 kilometers per hour heading northeast, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

The typhoon is unlikely to have much more influence on city weather, despite gusty winds and showers in eastern areas, forecasters said.

The weather bureau issued a blue gale-alert, the lowest in a three-level color system, for the stronger winds which lasted overnight through yesterday afternoon.

Today will see mainly cloudy skies with the temperatures ranging between 25 and 34 degrees Celsius.

Overcast conditions will continue through tomorrow night, when thundershowers are forecast to arrive. This is set to herald a wet weekend with showers expected. Temperatures are set to drop to the 20s from Sunday.
