Metro Line 11 running on time
THE Metro Line 11 from Jiading District in the northwest of the city to Pudong in the southeast is expected to open in mid December.
The interval between trains will be 10 minutes when the line begins operating and will be reduced to six minutes before the Shanghai World Expo in May. Trains on the line will run at up to 100 kilometers per hour, the fastest in Shanghai, according to Labor Daily report today.
The line 11 is 45.1 kilometers long and runs through Jiading, Putuo, Changning, Xuhui and Pudong New Area. There will be a 12.81-kilometer branch line to the Shanghai International Circuit.
It is the first phase of Line 11 and work on its southern extension will start this year. When the southern extension goes into service in 2012, trains on the line will run at up to 120 kilometers per hour and cut traveling time from Lingang New City to Pudong's Longyang Road to half an hour, Metro authorities say.
Lingang New City is part of Shanghai's Yangshan Deep-Water Port project, off the city's southern coast in Hangzhou Bay. The huge project will make Shanghai one of the busiest shipping centers in the world.
