Metro Line 8 to get extra platform at People's Square

SHANGHAI Metro management said today an additional platform will be put into service for Line 8 trains tomorrow at People's Square Station to ease congestion and improve safety.
The new platform is built on the other side of Line 8's tracks, opposite the original one, Metro operators said.
Daily passenger flow soared to 200,000 people per day on average soon after the line opened in December 2007. Large crowds rushing for subway trains created a safety risk to commuters.
The new platform was completed in 80 days.
