Metro adds services for Spring Festival travel rush

METRO lines serving Shanghai’s three railway stations will add services before and after their regular schedules for the Spring Festival rush, when millions are on the move.

The 40-day rush begins today and the Metro network expects to see an average 8.16 million trips a day during that period.

Metro will add trains on lines 1 and 3 serving Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai South Railway Station and on Line 2, serving Hongqiao Railway Station, according to demand, to reduce congestion and delays.

Lines 1, 2 and 8 will also continue their regular extensions of 30 minutes on Friday and Saturday nights during most of the period. The section of Line 2 between Guanglan Road and Pudong International Airport is not covered. All Metro lines will operate on the regular timetable from January 26 to February 3 as traffic normally drops during the Spring Festival, which falls on January 28, public holidays.
