Metro chaos at evening rush hour leave passengers stranded
THREE Metro lines — Line 1, 3, and 11 — were running at a limited speed during the evening rush hours on Friday due to a signal system glitch and banners blown to the overhead lines.
Huge crowds of passengers were stranded at Metro stations of the three lines.
The affected lines had resumed operation by 7:15pm, the city’s Metro operator said.
The Metro operator announced that Metro Line 1 got a glitch in the signal system at 6:05pm via its official Weibo, and it took speed control measures for the section from Shanghai South Railway Station to People’s Square. The glitch was solved and the line resumed operation about 35 minutes later.
At about 6:25pm, Line 11 also began speed control on services running from Shanghai Circuit to Anting, as a banner was blown to the overhead lines. The operation began to resume at about 7:15pm.
Meanwhile, another banner was blown to overhead lines of Line 3, which affected services running from West Yingao Road to Jiangwan Town. It resumed operation also at 7:15 pm.
