Metro discount ticket offered on website
THE city's Metro operator has joined with a coupon website to issue a souvenir ticket that enables riders to the subway 10 times along unlimited lines and unlimited routes.
The souvenir ticket is 41 yuan (US$6.57), a discount from original 80 yuan, according to the website, www.gaopeng.com, a site for group coupons. So far more than 800 people have visited the site and bought tickets, according to the website.
In a statement released late yesterday on the Metro authority's microblog, it said the tickets are an advertising vehicle of the coupon website that covers the price difference.
The operator said it will keep an eye on the sales of souvenir tickets for further consideration of future ticket types.
Metro officials said so far they have no plans to issue other types of tickets like the weekly or monthly tickets.
The current lowest Metro ticket price is 3 yuan for each ride (except for Line 5) and the highest is 10 yuan, said the operator.
Ticket buyers can get souvenir tickets at the Xujiahui and People's Square stations starting November 25 after booking them on the Internet. The ticket will expire after 10 sets of entrances and exits.
Passengers should use the tickets by November 2017.
The Metro operator now issues 18-yuan one-day passes and 45-yuan three-day passes along the 11-line network.
Also, the operator yesterday upgraded its smartphone application to enable English to be included in the app service that provides Metro maps and other subway information.
The free service is for smartphones with Android or iOS system. The free iPad app version also made its debut for download yesterday.
