Metro glitches cause massive delays today
Malfunction hit Shanghai's Metro Line 1 and Line 2 during the morning rush hour today, causing massive delays.
A glitch stalled a Metro Line 2 train around 8:25am. Passengers had to be evacuated from the train which was then pulled to a Metro maintenance center for repair.
Trains on Metro Line 2 were forced to run at slower speeds from Shanghai Science and Technology Museum Station to People's Square Station with longer waiting intervals.
The problem was fixed around 9:05am and the whole line was restored to normal operation.
Metro officials said a signal failure occurred on Metro Line 1 between Xinzhuang Station to Shanghai South Railway Station around 9:00am, and Metro staff had to restrict the number of passengers entering stations along the affected route.
