THE interval between trains on Metro Line 6, which runs in the Pudong New Area, will be reduced from the present six minutes to three-and-half minutes by the year's end.
One new carriage will be delivered every month after June and they will put into use immediately they have passed safety tests, the Shanghai Morning Post reported.
The number of trains on the line will be increased from the current 21 to 32 before the Expo.
The Metro is adding more trains and support staff along with a new network operations center as it tries to cope with the boom in commuters.
On March 6 a total of 4.14 million passengers used the system - just short of the record 4.31 million on December 31.
