Metro set for holiday record
METRO services will be under great pressure during the 40-day Spring Festival transport peak that begins tomorrow, the transport authority said yesterday.
The Metro authority estimates a daily average of 5.57 million passengers on the subway over this period - up 13.85 percent on the same period last year.
The growth of the network over the past year is one reason behind the growth, said officials.
The peak is estimated in the late period of the holiday, as out-of-towners return to Shanghai.
Managers predict that at these peak times daily numbers could exceed 6.15 million passengers.
In addition to endeavoring to have more trains on standby to respond to spikes, temporary bus services will also be added at hub Metro stations to ferry passengers to their destinations.
Metro schedules will be adjusted to meet railway peaks.
