Metro signal breakdown causes chaos again
TENS of thousands of Metro passengers were affected for about one hour this noon as train services on several lines were delayed due to a signal system breakdown.
The incident occurred when the signals malfunctioned at Zhongshan Park Station causing trains on Metro Line 3 and Line 4 to move at a limited speed.
Passengers complained about long intervals and the Century Avenue Station was packed with people. "It's probably too late now to take a taxi to the South Railway Station to catch my train that leaves at 12:40pm," a stranded traveler said.
Passengers on Metro Line 7 also reported longer delays and suspected the same signal problem. But the operator said Line 7 had no signal problem. The long delays were caused by the chaos of Line 3 as the two lines share several stations.
The signal problem was fixed about an hour later and the whole system returned to normal operation by 1:30pm, the Metro officials said.
