Metro stations closed for renovations

THREE major Metro stations in the city will be closed or partially shut around the Spring Festival.

The affected stations are People’s Square, affecting lines 1 and 8, Zhangjiang High Technology Park on Line 2 and Shendu Highway on Line 8.

Renovations at the stations will range from 15 to 28 days. The timing around the festival has been chosen to minimize the impact on commuters as the period sees the lowest traffic of the year on the network. The Spring Festival falls on January 28 in 2017, and the festival travel rush period runs from January 13 to February 21.

The reconstruction includes adding more escalators and new types of turnstiles.

People’s Square Station on Lines 1 and 8 will be suspended from January 14 to February 10, when trains on the two lines will not stop. Operation of Line 2 at the station will not be affected, though passengers will not be able to transfer to Line 1 and 8 at People’s Square. The station is the biggest transferring Metro station in Shanghai.

Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Parkstation on Line 2 will suspend operation from January 21 to February 10.

A free shuttle bus service from 7am to 8pm will be set up to ferry passengers between the station and nearby Jinke Road Station.

Shendu Highway Station on Line 8 will be closed from January 25 to February 8, where shuttle buses will also be arranged, to Lianhang Road Station. The buses will run from 5:15am to 10:15pm on Shendu Highway, and 5:20am to 11:40pm on Linhang Road.
