Mid-30s temperatures forecast for week ahead

THE week is set to be marked by hot summer days as a subtropical high dominates Shanghai’s weather, forecasters said yesterday.
No rain is expected for the rest of the week and skies will be cloudy with clear spells.
Yesterday, the city experienced a scorcher, with the mercury hitting 36.6 degrees Celsius at the benchmark downtown Xujiahui weather station.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a yellow high temperature alert just before 10am as temperatures soared.
At 1pm, most districts saw temperatures exceed 35 degrees — with Songjiang District recording a high of 37.1 degrees shortly before 2pm.
High temperatures are forecast to remain in the mid-30s through Saturday, with the exception of a somewhat cooler Thursday, when the high will dip to 33 degrees.
Lows will range between 27 and 28 degrees, said forecasters.
Light pollution is predicted for today. Fine PM2.5 particles are likely to be the main pollutant this morning, while in the afternoon, as the concentration of ozone increases, this will become the top air pollutant in the city.
