Mild start to week before rain arrives

THE city is set for a milder spell over the next couple of days before rain arrives late Wednesday, forecasters said yesterday.

Following recent clear but chilly weather, today and tomorrow should be warmer though overcast, with highs of 10-12 degrees Celsius and lows between 5 and 8 degrees.

This will continue for much of Wednesday, with a high of 13 degrees, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

However, a low pressure front will roll in late Wednesday bringing rain that night and Thursday, plus a dip in temperatures to 11 degrees.

The arrival of this winter’s second cold front on Friday should mean a return of clear skies and temperatures falling to between 4 and 8 degrees.

Meanwhile, winter officially arrived in Shanghai last Monday, the bureau said. It officially begins when the average temperature is below 10 degrees for five consecutive days.
