Mild temperatures to continue, with rain forecast for weekend
THE city is likely to remain warm Wednesday with a high of 28 degrees Celsius, indicating the arrival of meteorological summer should be coming soon.
Today started sunny with temperatures fluctuating between 18 and 27 degrees. Sunshine should be fairly abundant one more day but then will give way to increasing clouds late Wednesday. Dominated by northwest flows, cloudiness is expected through Friday, but a wet weekend is forecast to follow.
High temperatures Thursday to Saturday are forecast to stand at 25 degrees, while lows for the three days should range between 17 and 19 degrees.
The official start of summer, which is based on the 24-hour average temperature hitting a certain level, has yet to be declared by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
"Summer starts when the temperature for five straight days stays above 22 degrees," said weather forecaster Zhang Ruiyi.
Zhang said the arrival of the meteorological summer in the city generally falls on a day between late May and early June. Last summer, which shattered numerous heat records in the city, began quite early - on May 11.
