‘Mobike’ scheme launched in Yangpu District

YANGPU District government is promoting a green bicycle transport scheme that allows residents to rent a bicycle at the cost of only 1 yuan.

These bicycles, called "Mobike," are fitted with special chips, GPS and sensors, which make it easy to locate them and record the routes they travel. Using an app, riders can easily find the “Mobike” nearest to them and scan a QR code to unlock it.

Under this scheme, initiated by Beijing Mobike Technology Co, local residents can rent the Mobikes at a cost of 1 yuan for every 30-minute ride after paying a deposit.

The service is now available at some of the district's university campuses and innovation industry parks.

So far there are more than 10,000 Mobikes across our city.

These bicycles should be parked in roadside public parking area marked with white lines. However, some users parked their Mobikes in other places such as the residential complexes for convenience. That made the company staffers hard to get the bikes back.

The company keeps seeking support from local government to make the scheme more disciplined and run on a larger stage.

Yangpu is the first district government the company cooperated with. It is believed to be an ideal place for promoting such a green transport, as it has many universities, industrial parks and residential communities.
