Moderate pollution to ease some this afternoon
THIS morning was smoggy with moderately polluted air, while environmental authorities announced an elevated PM2.5 density that peaked at 160 micrograms per cubic meter at 5am.
The city's AQI reached 193 at 10am, triggering a recommendation for a reduction in prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion for groups such as the elderly, children and people suffering from heart or lung disease. PM2.5 is a measurement of ultra-fine particles that can lodge deep in the lungs.
While pollution is expected to ease this afternoon, light smog will still be present as the high pressure has produced weather conditions unlikely to disperse air pollutants easily.
Today's high of 18 degrees Celsius represented a return of some warmth.
Tomorrow's low is forecast to be 11 degrees Celsius, with another 18-degree high, and on Saturday, a high of 19 degrees is expected, which would be the highest temperatures this week.
But the mercury will fall to a high of 14 degrees on Monday as a cold front arrives.
