More ETC-only lanes for city toll booths
EIGHTEEN new electronic toll collection lanes have been opened at nine toll stations, the Shanghai Road Administrative Office said.
The ETC-only lanes include one at the A9 Xujing toll station in Qingpu District and another at the A11 Nanxiang station in Jiading District, Oriental Morning Post reported today.
Until now there have been 32 ETC-only lanes in the city. The administrative office plans to have 54 by the end of the year. There are another 66 lanes which have ETC but allow non-ETC vehicles to use them as well.
The Shanghai Public Transport Card Co has said that new users who deposit 1,500 yuan (US$219.53) on an ETC card will not have to pay for the card or the tag which normally retail for 430 yuan
A total of 4,025 vehicles have joined the city's e-toll system to date.
