Morning Metro services hit

COMMUTERS traveling on Metro lines 6 and 9 were severely affected during morning rush hours yesterday after the services were affected due to technical problems.

Speed restrictions were imposed on trains running between Madang Road and Yanggao Road M. on Metro Line 9 because of a malfunctioning signal device, the Metro operator said at 8:13am on its official Weibo.

The operator said the problem was solved about 30 minutes later. But speed limits were reimposed again on services running between Lujiabang Road to Yanggao Road M. for the same reason.

The operator claimed to have solved the problem in half an hour.

“I missed three trains before I could get on to one,” Jane Hu, a local resident told Shanghai Daily yesterday.

“There were so many people waiting on the platform,” Hu said, shocked at the size of the crowd when she arrived at the Zhaojiabang Road Station at about 8:30am.

She said she was late for work by 15 minutes.

Commuters on Line 6 were also affected.

Train services between Beiyangjing and Pudian road stations were also affected at 8:45am after one of the trains had a problem with the door.

It was sorted out 15 minutes later though some of the comments on the Metro’s official Weibo site claimed that it took over 30 minutes before the problem was resolved.
