Mostly cloudy skies for this week with mercury hitting 30 degrees

WARMTH is likely to grip our city this week with the mercury hitting a high of 30 degrees, forecasters said.

This week skies will be mostly cloudy despite a few thundershowers on late Wednesday. Starting Thursday, when the Shanghai Disney Resort is scheduled to open, there will be several dry and cloudy days welcoming the visitors. The highs for this week will mainly range from 27 to 30 degrees Celsius, which have a chance to bring summer to us.

The first working day after the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday drenched the city with a bout of heavy downpours and a cooling in temperatures. A blue rain storm alert -- the lowest on the four-scale warning system -- was also triggered in the storm.

The wet condition will see a break today and tomorrow, when blue skies come back, and then make its way back after a weak cold front arrives.

Today the mercury is forecast to bounce back to 28 degrees and a high of 30 degrees is expected tomorrow and Wednesday. Thursday it will dip a bit to 27 but Friday it will reach 30 degrees again.

The city has a chance to enter summer officially this week according to weather forecast, as a continuous of five days with average temperature above 22 degree Celsius will indicate the official arrival of summer.

But temporarily we will not have the plum rain season be announced because after Thursday there will be several days under a high pressure, which ensures clear skies.
