Mostly rainy weekend ahead with dip in mercury

THE three-day Qingming Festival holiday would be mostly soaked in rain at this weekend with a cooling down brought by cold airs arrive on Sunday, forecasters said.

The wetness is expected to suspend on Monday, the Tomb Sweeping Day, and resume on Tuesday.

Today our city saw the mercury hitting a high of 22.5 degrees Celsius under a high pressure. Tomorrow the seasonal showers will visit us with the high dipping a bit to 18 and 19 degrees through Thursday.

The rain will taper off late Thursday and bring back clear skies on Friday with the high bouncing back to low twenties. But the wet condition will return at the weekend.

Though residents are feeling much warmer these days, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said summer often arrived in Shanghai in late May or early June, after the average temperature stay above 22 degrees for a string of five days.
