Nanjing Road E. Metro stop, roads to Bund to be restricted tonight

Traffic along the Bund and Nanjing Road will be restricted tonight for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The Nanjing Road E. station on Metro Lines 2 and 10 will be blocked as of 8pm. Trains will not stop at the station, and transfers will not be available, either. Service would return to normal tomorrow.

Residents planning to attend the countdown celebration are advised to walk to the Bund from Tiantong Road Station or Yuyuan Garden Station of Line 10.

Police said Zhongshan Road E1 and Sichuan Road M. will be closed from 8pm to 12:30am. The Dongjin ferry service will be suspended as will be the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel.

A number of celebrations are being planned across the city tonight.

A 3D light show and a countdown gala will be held at the Bund area while temples across the city will keep their doors open for the traditional ringing of the bell.

A music laser show is planned at the waterside platform in the South Binjiang area of the Pudong New Area, with 2,014 balloons to be set off at midnight.

With the Chinese Lunar New Year next month, road traffic also will be severely tested. The roads are expected to be jammed with vehicles on January 30 since Chinese New Year’s Eve is not included in the list of national holidays this year, according to Bao Shaokang, deputy city mayor and director of municipal public security bureau.
