New flood-relief pump station

TESTING of the Mengzi Road Pump Station has begun and it is due to come into use in May, Shanghai Foundation Engineering Co said yesterday. The pumping station will alleviate flooding woes for residents of the Wuliqiao neighborhood.
For years, the neighborhood in Luwan District alongside the west bank of the Huangpu River have been troubled by flooding during the city's summer storm season. The area's low ground level and weak drainage are to blame.
