New safety doors set for Line 2
SAFETY doors will be installed on platforms in all Metro Line 2 stations to reduce the risk of accidents, the city's Metro operator said.
Commuters have long complained that Line 2 doesn't have safety doors. There have been some attempted suicide cases on the line and accidents have involved people getting caught in the train doors.
The Metro operator and constructors said Line 2 stations were not all equipped with safety doors due to "technical bottlenecks."
For example, Zhongshan Park Station has a curved platform unsuitable for older versions of the safety doors, the operator said.
The operators said there was no connection between the absence of safety doors and suicide attempts.
The new platform doors prevent people from going on the tracks and open after the train comes to a full stop.
