New section of Metro 9 open by year-end

THE eastern section of the third phase of Metro Line 9 was connected yesterday and should be operating by the end of the year, Metro operator Shanghai Shentong Group said.
The 13.82 kilometer section has nine stations and has interchanges with lines 12 and 14.
With the new section, Line 9 will connect several major residential complexes, business districts and transportation hubs, including Songjiang New Town, Lujiazui, Xujiahui and residential complexes in Caolu.
The newly added stations are Fangdian Road, Biyun Road, Pingdu Road, Jinqiao, Shenjiang Road, Jinhai Road, Gutang Road, Minlei Road and Caolu.
The company said the project used pre-made track plates, normally only used for high-speed trains, for the first time.
The company said the pre-made plates are easier to install and maintain, which will not only improve the efficiency and make maintenance easier, but will also give passengers a better ride.
