New skywalk planned for north Bund

AUTHORITIES in Hongkou District are planning to build a “Green Skywalk” in the north Bund area that will link Tilanqiao subway station to a new park, a local planning official said yesterday.

“The walkway will be covered with plants and flowers,” said Luo Yihong, planning director at the Hongkou Planning and Land Resources Bureau.

“And as soon as people step on to it they will be able to see the Huangpu River,” he said.

“It will be very easy for office workers to walk to the river during their lunch breaks,” he said.

Luo did not say when construction of the project would start or finish, but said it will be connected to a pedestrian tunnel under Gongping Road.

A major redevelopment project is under way in the north Bund area, the first phase of which — comprising the Shanghai Port International Passenger Center complex and a new park — has been completed.
