Nice Conditions Facilitated Tourism During New Year Holiday

Good weather allowed for lots of short-term travel from Shanghai during the New Year's holiday.

The Shanghai Sightseeing Bus Center, the city's main short-term travel organizer, said it served about 4,500 tourists over the holiday, up 12 percent over last year.

The newly opened Chongqi Bridge between Chongming and Qidong, Jiangsu Province, was one of the most popular scenic spots. Officials said the operation of the bridge opened up a "double bridge" era for Chongming Island, which is very favorable for Chongming's local tourism.

About 30 percent of the tourists the center received for the holiday went to Chongming and Qidong through the Changjiang Tunnel-Bridge and Chongqi Bridge.

Tour destinations with hot springs, such as Changzhou and Nanjing, were also popular over New Year's. The center said the cold weather attracted more people to the warm and relaxing hot springs during the holiday.
