Online pay not picked up by taxis
SHANGHAI taxi passengers are not able to pay fares online as is being done in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.
City taxi operators say there's no such service locally. And they have not considered offering online payment.
Officials with Shanghai Dazhong Taxi Co told eastday.com that many passengers are paying fares with city public transport cards, which are convenient and safe.
The operator once tried to provide credit card payment services in the cabs but the trial stopped due to high maintenance costs and the commission fee, said the company.
Chengdu taxi operators introduced the service for those who forget to bring cash. The riders can log on and pay with cell phones.
Local passengers said the new practice is eye-catching but still needs to be refined as online transactions may lead to further disputes.
