Open door fright for Metro passengers

THE city's Metro operator confirmed today that a Line 9 train had traveled for more than two minutes last Friday with an open door.

The Metro operator said the train driver was inexperienced and did not realize there was a problem, the Shanghai Morning Post reported today.

A passenger filmed the incident and put the video online later that day. The footage showed the train with the door open speeding through the tunnel from Qibao Station to Zhongchun Road Station.

A warning light was on and the concerned passengers stood as far from the door as possible.

After the train arrived at the Zhongchun Road Station, a passenger told staff about the problem and the door was closed.

The Metro operator said the door system failed at Qibao Station and the driver switched off the automatic controls. He did not know the door remained open and his control panel did not warn him about this.

Metro Line 9 runs from Yishan Road to Songjiang New City. It opened at the end of 2007.
