Operator denies older travel cards have technical flaw

SHANGHAI Transportation Card Co has dismissed claims that its yellow, red and green cards have a technical problem.
The company issued the statement after rumors began to spread that the cards, which were released 10 years ago, had a flaw that caused credit balances to disappear.
The company also denied claims that the government had said the cards would expire at the end of 2018.
It did however, say it planned to gradually phase out the older cards and replace them with purple ones, which have more sophisticated chips and can be used in cities outside Shanghai including Ningbo and Changshu.
