Overcrowding lessens along Line 2

THE Metro operator said that overcrowding was eased at some stations on Metro Line 2 yesterday after passenger restrictions were enforced at four stations during rush hours.

But some morning commuters were confused as they didn't know about the policy.

The restrictions were enacted at Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, Dongchang Road, Lujiazui and Jiangsu Road stations.

Metro officials said the measure "tends not to limit the total volume but to make traffic flow smoother at some stations."

The subway operator will also temporarily enact passenger restrictions at seven other stations on Line 2 depending on real-time conditions.

Passengers will adapt to the changes in a few days, the operator said.

At Jiangsu Road Station in Changning District yesterday, many passengers had to walk an additional 5 minutes to enter the station after two out of the four entrances were closed from 7:30am to 9:30pm.

A daily average of 1.3 million people use Line 2, making it the busiest of the city's 11 lines, according to the Metro operator.
