Park to take safety measures for festival
TICKET sales will be briefly discontinued and people allowed only in batches if the number of visitors soar during the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, which will be held from March 18 to mid April at the Gucun Park in Baoshan District.
If the number of visitors reaches 96,000, or 80 percent of the 120,000 maximum capacity allowed in the park, ticket sales will be slowed down and visitors allowed inside only in batches, said Zhang Zhong, a director of the park.
The maximum daily capacity of the park is about 200,000.
“The number of visitors is increasing year by year during the festival period, and hence the need to control them,” Zhang said.
The park received a record 160,200 visitors on a single day during its latest event last year.
An emergency passage linking the park’s Yuelin Avenue and a parking lot outside the park has been designed for the first time to disperse visitors in case of emergency.
