Plants curbed to save power for households

PLANTS in Minhang and Qingpu districts were asked to limit power use for 75 minutes yesterday morning to assure the supply for households in the two areas, authority said.

Shanghai's power consumption broke the winter record again at 20.34 million kilowatts on Wednesday evening, according to Shanghai Electric Power Co Ltd, the city's power supplier.

The load eased to 19.73 million kilowatts yesterday as temperatures rose in the afternoon.

The mercury fell to minus 3.7 degrees Celsius in urban areas yesterday morning, plunging to minus 7.5 degrees in suburbs.

The cold broke this winter's record, but the city got warmer soon in the afternoon with the thermometer climbing to 7 degrees, according to Shanghai Meteorological Bureau yesterday.

Today it will be sunny to cloudy with temperatures ranging from 1 to 9 degrees, the bureau said.
